Thank you so much for your calls and e-mails to Governor Walker about your concerns with the Common Core State Standards Initiative. We are just as disappointed as you that in all of Governor Walker's remarks last night about education, he refused to address the Common Core in any way.
Please continue to respectfully voice your concerns to the Governor. Let him know that his silence on the issue is extremely disappointing and is a failure of leadership!

As you know, there is a groundswell of opposition that is rising up to remove the Common Core from schools across the nation. There has been much opposition in Wisconsin with an unacceptable response from state legislators and the governor. Wisconsin must reclaim its authority over education NOW!
Common Core is nothing less than the nationalization of education, and we know that when the government takes over, not much is done well. No Child Left Behind is leaving children behind; the Affordable Care Act is making healthcare unaffordable; and the Common Core is absolutely destroying the core of the American education system.
The standards are of poor quality and fail to prepare American students for studies in science, technology, engineering, and math. By eighth grade, the standards put our students two years behind their peers in high-performing countries and even further behind in high school.
In English language arts, the Common Core severely de-emphasizes the study of classic literature and instead implements drab and simplistic “informational” texts. We know that critical thinking is the key to success, and the evidence shows that children should be reading more, not less, classic literature. More than that, child psychiatrists and psychologists have heavily criticized the standards as being age-inappropriate for young children.
We are hearing that Governor Walker is planning to make a statement on Common Core during his State of the State address. Please call and email him NOW, and let him know that he must stand with us to defend our children, parental rights, and to pushback against federal expansion.
Governor Walker needs to know that this is an important issue to you and your family!
